Thesis: Throughout this first semester of ceramics, I have constantly failed and succeeded. This lead me to my overall theme, discovery. I have, and am continuing to discover, things that work and things that do not.
What are they? The projects are for the most part small with either a simple or complex glaze, depending on if the shape is simple or complex itself.
How were they made? Each project was made on the wheel and then as i started to work, i discovered what my shape in the end would turn out to be. I found it easier to not go in to ceramics with a set shape in mind, but to have an idea and just go with it and discover what comes up. As i went into the glazing process, with each project i took time to decipher what i wanted to test, and then if i found a glazing process i liked, i would then experiment with it. I found i like the blending process, with drips along the pot, but i found i liked it better if the glazes mixed instead of just looking like drips. i also discovered that i do not usually like how the -dipping one side in one color and then dipping another side in another color- turned out. i still have not found a favorite way to glaze but i will keep trying and learning new processes.
How it refers back to theme? My having had so many downs this semester i have had the chance to discover how i can improve my skills and find out what does not work for me. They beauty of art is discovery of new and innovating ideas that can challenge the mind to a new self discovery. (i need to find out a better way to say this to get my point across). i have discovered what works and what does not and i will continue to do so so i may better improve my art.
